Grasa was born Darrell Daniels on January 4, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He grew up in a rough neighborhood. Mary Daniels, his mother, was a single parent who raised him. Being the youngest of three and not knowing any better, he ran with the wrong crowd. At the age of 12 he went to a detention home for auto theft. By the age of 15 he was arrested for the possession of cocaine and of an illegal firearm that sent him back.
Grasa was in and out of jail over the years and was spiraling down the wrong path. It was then, his friend Chris Jackson, also known in the South as Nussie, came into his life. Nussie encouraged him to leave the life of crime and to turn to music.
Grasa became interested in music at an early age. He credits Nussie for saving his life by getting him off of the streets and into the studio. After a while he began developing his skills as an artist. Prior to being Grasa he went by the stage name JackBoi.
Grasa made a name for himself through his music and his entertaining opinion on life in the streets. He has coined the saying “What you mean you don’t know Grasa?”
